EV CHARGESHARE of IUT won a gold medal in the SDG7 category of The International Blockchain Olympiad (IBCOL)

Bangladeshi team EV CHARGESHARE of IUT won a gold medal in the SDG7 category of The International Blockchain Olympiad (IBCOL). This team also received a bronze medal as they made it to the top three.
The International Blockchain Olympiad is an annual blockchain solution-based competition that invites young individuals from all over the globe to offer solutions to modern problems using blockchain technology. This year IBCOL was based on the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) envisioned by the UN.
Many Bangladeshi teams participated and brought glory to Bangladesh this year. Among them, team EV CHARGESHARE came up with a decentralized app that connects home charging stations to electric vehicles using Blockchain technology based on peer to peer charge-sharing model.
The team consists of Leader Tawsif Zaman and members Ishtiak Ahmed Rafin and Erka Binta Noor, who are all currently attending the Islamic University of Technology (IUT).

Inauguration of CEZERi Lab in IUT

On November 17, 2022, the Mechanical and Production Engineering Department of the Islamic University of Technology held an inauguration ceremony for the country's one of the top digitalized fabrication laboratories. The lab has been named as 'Cezeri Lab' after the prominent Turkish physicist Al-Cezeri, the father of robotics.
The Secretary (West), Ministry of Foreign Affairs, People’s Republic of Bangladesh, H.E. Mr. Shabbir Ahmad Chowdhury, was present at the ceremony as the Chief Guest and Ambassador of the Embassy of the Republic of Turkiye in Bangladesh H.E. Mr. Mustafa Osman Turan as the Guest of Honor. The country coordinator of the Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency (TikA), Dhaka, Mr. Sevki Mert Baris, was also present at the program as a special guest, and the Honorable Vice Chancellor of IUT, Prof. Dr. Md. Rafiqul Islam, was presided over the program.
This lab can be a stepping stone for the students of IUT from the different OIC member countries to familiarize themselves with modern-day's cutting-edge 3D technology. IUT authority expressed their gratitude to TiKA and Embassy of the Republic of Turkiye in Bangladesh for aiding the university in facilitating the lab. This lab opens a new window for the students to enrich the Muslim Ummah and the world with innovation and creativity. The IUT authority is eager to collaborate with other institutions to work on their projects in the Cezeri Lab. Twenty faculty members and staff members of IUT took part in the training program and were awarded certificates during the ceremony by the honorable guests.

Team MPE: Inter Departmental Basketball Champion 2022

The MPE basketball team defeated the CSE basketball team by a wide margin in the championship game to claim victory in the interdepartmental basketball competition held in the indoor basketball ground of IUT on 10th November.
MPE 53 - 29 CSE was the final score.
The department is thrilled with the brilliant performance of the entire squad, who worked hard to earn this glory, and wishes them the best of luck in future competitions.

Two-day visit for an external peer review team (EPRT) to review the Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering program

The Mechanical and Production Engineering (MPE) Department at Islamic University of Technology (IUT) organized a two-day visit for an external peer review team (EPRT) to review the Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering program. At the start of the first day, the EPRT met with the AQA head and the MPE department head. Following that, SAC gave a presentation in IUT's distance learning theatre(DLT). The EPRT was given an in-depth presentation on all of the work done to date for the program's accreditation. Following that, EPRT held a small discussion with current program students. The deputy librarian gave a brief presentation on the capabilities of IUT's library. Following the presentation, the EPRT was given a tour of the university library. Then there was a meeting between honorable VC and EPRT. Following that, the EPRT held a hybrid (virtual and in-person) meeting with department graduates. The graduates provided vital feedback to the EPRT.
The next day commenced with numerous important meetings between EPRT and AQA's Head, Registrar, Chairman of the Examination Committee, Chairman of the SWC, and staff members from the MPE department. EPRT then went to physical facilities associated with academic and extracurricular activities. The EPRT then reviewed the related documents. Another hybrid meeting was held between EPRT and employers. The discussion focused on how the department's graduates are performing in the workplace and what new skills might be added to improve their performance. Finally, in the presence of the honorable VC, Dean(FET), AQA head, SAC chairman, Head of MPE department, Provost, distinguished faculty members of MPE department, and staff members of MPE department, EPRT held an exit meeting in DLT about their findings and recommendations.
The department would like to thank everyone who contributed to making the EPRT visit a success, particularly MPE faculties and staff members, the AQA office, the VC's office, the Registrar's office, the Provost's office, the Transportation Committee, the Librarian’s office, Building Engineering section’s office, Cafeteria committee and so on. The department will continue to work on the EPRT recommendations and will soon arrange for the accreditation team to visit the department for accreditation of the program. MPE department is highly motivated to accomplish the accreditation of the program very soon by fulfilling all the relevant tasks. Seeking everyone’s prayer and co-operation in the upcoming days.

MPE Department of IUT has successfully organized a short course on “Supply Chain Management including Blockchain and Industry 4.0”

The Mechanical and Production Engineering Department of IUT has organized a short course on “Supply Chain Management including Blockchain and Industry 4.0”. The workshop lasted four days and included a total of 38 participants from various industries as well as IUT students. The primary objective of this short course is to provide competency-based training to enable participants to gain a comprehensive understanding of the knowledge and skills, as well as the latest trends in Supply Chain Management, such as Blockchain and Industry 4.0, in order to improve productivity and competitiveness with the goal of restructuring organizational functions to create a value-added-based mindset.
The sessions of this short course were led by industry professionals and university professors with extensive experience in the field of supply chain management. Honorable Vice Chancellor of IUT, Prof. Dr. Mohammad Rafiqul Islam, Pro Vice Chancellor, Dr. Omar Jah, and Dean FET, Prof. Dr. Md. Ashraful Hoque, were present at the short course's concluding session to award certificates to the participants. Prof. Dr. Md. Anayet Ullah Patwari, the Head of the department of MPE, presided over the entire session.

Session on CO/PO Attainment

The assessment of Course Outcomes is one of the most important parts of outcome-based education (OBE). The Course Outcomes (COs) for each course are defined at the start of OBE implementation based on the Program Outcomes (POs) and other requirements. The COs must be assessed and evaluated at the end of each course to determine whether they have been met. The process of attainment of COs, POs and PSOs starts from writing appropriate COs for each course of the program from first year to fourth year in a four-year engineering degree program.
Last week, the MPE department had a brief session on CO-PO attainment, which was led by the department's honorable head, Prof. Dr. Anayet Ullah Patwari. And distinguished faculty members from the MPE department were present at the gathering to discuss various topics and share their perspectives. Prof. Dr. Md. Shamsuddin Ahmed, a significant figure in the Department, recounted his previous experience with OBE accreditation and CO-PO accomplishment.

Daylong Industry Visit from IUT MPE Department in Walton Hi-Tech Industries

A team of 16 faculty members lead by Prof. Dr. Anayet Ullah Patwari had an excellent visit to Walton Hi-Tech Industries in Konabari, Gazipur on March 30, 2022. Walton is a new global electrical, electronics, autos, and other appliance brand with one of the world's largest and best-equipped R&I centers, which manufactures through several subsidiaries under the Walton group headquarters in Bangladesh. Walton now employs over 30000 people across 22 production bases spread throughout 700 acres of factory land. Based on market demand, the annual production capacity is 10 million units. The day-long trip, which included stops at various main sections such as the Refrigeration Unit, Compressor Section, Molding Area, and others, was a pleasure and gave the Department's faculty members a peek of Walton's most cutting-edge technologies and facilities. And the department is looking forward to working with Walton's Research and Development team in the future. This visit was conducted for maintaining a Industries and Academia collaboration for the development and achieving department’s future goals in terms of Research, and BAETE Accreditation.
With a significant number of Iutians working for Walton Bangladesh, it was inspiring to observe how the MPE alumni are contributing to elevate the country's pride in technological domains. We would like to express our gratitude to all the members of Walton for their hospitality and warmth.

MPE Faculty Alumni Meeting was held on 4 March 2022

On March 4, 2022, at 10:00 a.m., a Faculty Alumni meeting was held at IUT Auditorium, presided over by Prof. Dr. Md. Anayet Ullah Patwari, Head of the MPE Department, to address various department-related recommendations and suggestions. A total of 40 MPE graduates who attended the meeting gave information about their current employment and other pertinent information. The Head of the Department then expressed his gratitude to all of the MPE Department's professors and alumni for attending the face-to-face meeting and began discussing the proposed agenda. HOD discussed the current state of the MPE department and recent achievements, including the MPE website, the addition of another 50 or more students in the coming academic year, the current syllabus, the MPE research cluster, and academia-industry collaboration. Then, all MPE department alumni participated and discussed issues such as curriculum changes, student mental health, industrial training programs in each semester, increased industry and research collaboration, implementation of a Central postgraduate research lab with cutting-edge facilities, laboratory operating hours, student skill development, and others. Finally, it was a very successful and informative discussion that will undoubtedly help our Department to move forward and lead nationally and globally.
Finally, we would like to thank all of the alumni who came to this event and helped make it a success despite having a very busy schedule in their daily life. We would like to thank Dr. A.S.M. Mojahidul Hoque and Prof. Dr. Engr. Md. Iqbal Mahmud for traveling such a long distance and sharing their wonderful ideas.

MoU signing between IUT and UTM

A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed between the Islamic University of Technology, Bangladesh, and Universiti Teknologi Malaysia on Thursday, November 25, 2021.
This MoU will provide ample opportunities to the Mechanical and Production Engineering Department of IUT and School of Mechanical Engineering of UTM to exchange faculty members and students. This will further encourage and facilitate research collaboration between the researchers of both departments.
Prof. Dr. M Rafiqul Islam, VC of IUT, and Prof. Dr. Ahmad Fauzi Ismail, VC of UTM were present in the virtual MoU signing session along with Deans and Head of the Departments, and faculty members of the concerned departments.
