The Networking Research Group at Department of CSE, IUT involves in fundamental research on different aspects of broadband and wireless networks. Our research spans a wider range of topics in networking, including modeling, analyzing, implementing, and enhancing the Networking Protocols for wired and wireless networks, Especially for Wireless Local Area Network, Wireless Mesh Networks, and Wireless Sensor Networks. Another important aspect of the group’s research is the development of networking protocols that are optimized across multiple layers of the protocol stack. The major focus is given on Transport, Network and Medium Access Control layers. Currently we are working on enhancement of security and energy efficiency in wireless sensor network and energy Harvesting Sensor Networks. We seek a principled understanding of new and emerging areas through a complementary mix of theoretical and applied experimental research.

NDAG is targeted to enhance the research in the area of networking and data analytics. In the networking perspective, the major focus is given on core protocol enhancement, diversified application deployment and testing, ad hoc and sensor networking. It also carries research in the area of Internet of Things (IoT) since next few decades are expected to be dominated by extensive research and development ofIoT. In data analysis, on the other hand, the emphasis is given on data mining and big data analytics.
Computer Vision Lab (CVLab)

Associate Professor
CSE Department
Leader
The computer vision lab (CVLab) was formed in the Computer Science and Engineering Department at the Islamic University of Technology in 2011 under the leadership of Dr. Md. HasanulKabir. CVLab is dedicated to the study and research of different algorithms and techniques in computer vision and their applications to real-world problems. Our work mainly focuses in the fields of digital imaging, image representation, machine learning, pattern classification, and machine vision. Currently, we are working on low-level feature representation, biomedical image retrieval, human face analysis, motion analysis, and activity recognition.
Systems and Software Lab (SSL)

Dr. Md. Kamrul Hasan
Professor
CSE Department
Professor
CSE Department
Leader
The focus of Systems and Software Lab (SSL) is to have the experimental design, implementation, and evaluation of systems, software, and technologies which enable the development of a wide range of emerging applications. The group is interested in sensor data and signals that may help developing interactions with computers. Human Computer Interaction, Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning are the theoretical area which we blend together. We have been working on inertia sensor based activity recognition, eye tracking based mouse pointer, human intention and attention detection, hand and body gesture recognition, accelerometer based chair gesture recognition etc. We sometimes focus on applications to facilitate special group, for example speech based text correction tool.
The group also actively participates in software engineering research and in social network mining. We have done software repository mining to increase software reusability. We are keen to understand code usage/ reuse pattern in software development. We have studied social network in the view of data mining so that we can recommend friends, groups etc.
We are located in room number 402 of the brand new academic building of Islamic University of Technology (IUT). You can reach to us by calling +88029291254-59 ext. 3266. We always welcome any comments, suggestion, questions, or concerns.

Professor
CEE Department
Leader
The Concrete Lab of the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering (CEE) is conducting research works related to recycling, durability, and sustainability of construction materials. The research facilities of the lab are continuously improving to make it as a Center of Excellence for doing research work in the field of cement based construction materials. The research results of the laboratory are regularly published in the national and internationally renowned journals and conference proceedings. Currently, several groups of under-graduate and post-graduate students are doing research work on the following topics:
Effect of Aggregate Size and Sand to Aggregate Volume Ratio on the Properties of Concrete
Effect of Type of Chemical Admixture and Sand to Aggregate Volume Ratio on the Properties of Ready Mixed Concrete (RMC)
Utilization of Steel Slag in Concrete as Coarse and Fine Aggregate |

Soil is an engineering material which is not a coherent solid material like steel or concrete. It is important to understand the behavior of different type of soil as an engineer. It is a material which can be - built on foundations to buildings, bridges; built in tunnels, culverts, basements; built with roads, runways, embankments, dams; supported retaining walls, quays etc.
Engineers are primarily interested in the mechanical properties of soils - strength, stiffness, permeability that depend primarily on the nature of the soil grains, the state of stress, the water and air contents and unit weight. Depending on the strength and soil condition liquefaction may occur due to earthquake shaking or other rapid loading. Liquefaction and related phenomena have been responsible for tremendous amounts of damage in historical earthquakes around the world.
In Geotechnical Lab of the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering, CEE, IUT, we are working on constitutive modeling of soils to describe mechanical properties of soils at different conditions. Our research works involve - laboratory element tests, model tests and numerical simulations with finite element method. Here, we are doing research in many fields of geotechnical engineering. The main topics of our research are given below:

The language lab of IUT is primarily used for Spoken English program for the Language Other Than English (LOTE) students coming from different OIC countries. It is equipped with automated software system, well-decorated seating arrangements and air conditioning system. A white smart board with a range of functions and facilities is placed in the lab for smooth operation of language teaching. A full-fledged language centre providing French, Arabic, English is expected to be in place in near future.
