A delegation comprising Mr. Karl Yu Ying, Director, Public Affairs and Communications Department and
Mr. Thouhidul Hassan, SHRM SCP, Manager of Public Relations Department, Huawei Corporation, met Prof. Dr. Mohammad Rafiqul Islam, Vice Chancellor, Islamic University of Technology (IUT) on 17 August 2021 at the campus of the University.
Prof. Dr. Abu Raihan Mostofa Kamal, Head of Computer Science and Engineering (CSE) Department, Prof. Dr. Md. Hasanul Kabir, Provost of Male Students’ Halls of Residence and Mr. Hasan Mahmud, Assistant Professor, CSE Department and Academic Correspondent of Huawei in IUT, were also present at the meeting.
Welcoming the delegation, the Vice Chancellor gave a brief presentation on IUT. He highlighted on the mission, vision, and recently updated strategic plan of the university. While elaborating on the facilities available at the University especially in the area of ICT, Prof. Rafiqul Islam apprised the delegation of the need
for deepening and broadening of the programmes and activities of the University especially in the fields of emerging and cutting-edge technologies to face the challenges and opportunities of the digital era. In this connection, the Vice Chancellor sought the support and expertise of the Huawei in the realm of R&D, ICT lab development, students’ internship programme, etc.
The Vice Chancellor emphasized on the need for further strengthening of industry-academia cooperation and in this regard, he expressed his optimism that there exists a huge potential of cooperation between one of the global giants of tech industry like Huawei and a seat of higher learning like Islamic University of Technology (IUT) representing 57-nation Organisation of Islamic Cooperator (OIC).
Huawei officials presented a corporate briefing and highlighted their CSR events carried out in the recent past. They talked about ‘Huawei-BCC ICT Skills Competiti
on 2021’, in which 20 Students from IUT have moved to the 2nd round along with the competing students from other top 9 technical universities in Bangladesh. Huawei officials recalled with appreciation the long history of cooperation with IUT since 2007 and they stressed their strong willingness to recruit fresh graduates from IUT. They also invited the concerned faculty members for a virtual tour at their headquarters to know their latest technical innovations. The meeting ended with a luncheon hosted by the Vice-Chancellor.
