Vice Chancellor's Message for Newly-admitted Students
السلام عليكم ورحمة الله وبركاته
First of all, I would like to congratulate you on being able to admit yourself to the Islamic University of Technology (IUT) after going through a fiercely competitive selection procedure.

I am sure you can appreciate that getting an opportunity to study at this university is by itself a rare privilege for which you should be grateful to Allah (SWT).

You would be happy to know that the 57-nation, Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), established this institution realizing the need for educating and training the youths of the Ummah for facing the challenges of the modern world.

You might be aware of the fact that the campus of your university is a melting pot for the students from different corners of the world and as such it has a vibrant multicultural environment. I would ask you to make the best use of the opportunity to know your fellow students representing heterogeneous social, cultural and linguistic backgrounds. But, do not forget even for a single moment that you are all bound by the common faith of Islam.

We believe in unity in diversity. The experience of studying with fellow students from different cultures and the unique opportunity to make friends from different countries is considered to be a great plus point in this age of globalization and soft power.

You have come from different parts of the world leaving behind your near and dear ones to pursue a common cause i.e. education. All the students of this seat of higher learning have a common aspiration. So, you must extend cooperation to the authorities for maintaining a conducive academic environment in your own interest so that you can prepare yourself to face the challenges of the ever-changing job market.

At the same time, you have to equip yourself with the knowledge and skill required for taking advantage of the opportunities being unfolded by the onset of the 4th industrial revolution. University is a place of transition from where you will transform yourself into a person ready to face the risks and avail of the opportunities of the real world.

You must keep in mind that we follow a policy of zero tolerance towards any student who is found to be involved in any activity not compatible with the generally accepted behavior and conduct.

In this world, knowledge is just not a power but is emerging as a super power. We want to see you not only the fittest, but also the nicest. We want to see you global in outlook, cosmopolitan in character but rooted in the universal values of tolerance, empathy and kindness.

You have been admitted at a time when the whole world is passing through the ravages of the pandemic and the academic arena is one of the worst-hit sector.

So, you have to take preparation for attending online classes by procuring necessary gadgets and having access to high speed internet connectivity as far as possible. In this connection, we can assure you that as soon as the pandemic situation improves, we will start on-campus classes.

Hopefully, that day is not far when you will be able to sit in your classes in the midst of your friends and enjoy the beauty and ambience of your beautiful campus which is one of the architectural marvels of the Host Country, Bangladesh. In Sha Allah, we will soon arrange centrally a Freshers' Reception, depending on the pandemic situation, either physically in our auditorium or on virtual platform.

You will be happy to know that your predecessors i.e. the alumni of this University have established themselves as a strong force both in academia and industry. Within a short time, they have proved their excellence, ability, expertise and creativity. They are now employed in prestigious positions in different countries of the world.

We are optimistic that on completion of your courses of study at this seat of higher learning, you will also find yourself sought-after by the employers in your respective home countries as well as in international job market.

As you are here passing through a strict screening procedure for admission, I am sure you have the necessary preparation and determination to come over the academic rigours of this university. We are all here to facilitate your endeavors to excel both in academic and extra-academic arenas.

But the primary responsibility of making good use of the facilities available on the campus lies with you. The wind of change is blowing all over the world. It is you who will decide whether you will build walls to shield yourself from the wind or to build windmills to harness power.

You come forward to learn more and more and we are here to extend all sorts of assistance required for unleashing your latent talent in this age of bits and bytes. You need to continually reconfigure your knowledge while gathering new skills and techniques in this ever changing climate of standardization and virtualization. But you should not be lost in the realm of technology only.

To conclude, on behalf of the members of the management, faculty and staff as well as on my own behalf, I would like to assure you once again that we are always ready to extend all sorts of support and cooperation to make your campus life a very rewarding and pleasing lifetime experience.

May Almighty Allah’s peace and blessings be showered upon all of us.

Prof. Dr. Mohammad Rafiqul Islam
